Foundation Phileo policy

In this policy we briefly try to explain how we want to pursue which goals as a foundation. We are a foundation with a charitable character, and depend on donations completely. This means that achieving goals is largely dependent on the generosity of others.

So putting our ambition is always subject to the financial feasibility. But we have big dreams, and if the generosity of people goes beyond our current ambitions, a new project is found easily as there is so much need in Poland.

The foundation aims to help people in Poland if they have a need, and seek to improve living conditions in general. They do this mainly in conjunction with, or through local churches and agencies to maintain a relationship. Helping people is not limited to believers. However, the foundation strives to demonstrate the unconditional love of Christ to the recipient through the aid we give.

1. Vision and Mission of our Association:

Taken from our statutes:

The foundation aims to help people in Poland if they have a need, and seek to improve living conditions in general. They do this mainly in conjunction with, or through local churches and agencies to maintain a relationship. Helping people is not limited to believers. However, the foundation strives to demonstrate the unconditional love of Christ to the recipient through the aid we give.

In addition to helping the poor, the foundation has also explicitly aims to spread, proclaim and be an example for the gospel of Jesus Christ.

The foundation seeks to achieve its goal by organising events or activities (structural) in Poland where occasional tangible or intangible assistance is offered, the gospel can be proclaimed and relationships are established.

The foundation will use all the possibilities and materials that it deems appropriate in order to reach people and get in touch with them. If the foundation has to make choices in whom she can help, she makes use of lists of the most financially needy people that can be obtained through schools or mayors of towns and cities.

2. Ambitions

The foundation’s aim to help as many people as possible in the manner described in the statutes. Within the next two years we hope to open the first youth center in collaboration with a local church so we can try to prevent the youth to be in the street all the time, offer an alternative to the use of alcohol and drugs out of boredom at a very young age, and provide a place where people listen to them when they need it. In all cases we try to provide assistance based on a relationship, or the ability for the aid recipient to fall back to a local contact person.

To achieve these ambitions, we of course have a structural need for money. That’s why we have designed our website in such a way that there is also a possibility to support one specific project once or structural just what appeals to someone. We will also engage with churches or organisations that are looking for a charity to which they contribute financially, and where people are available who can contribute their talents in the work that needs to be done.

Regarding the deployment of talents we want to start within one year with the Phileo network. Here, people can sign up and show what talents they have and are willing to use on behalf of charity, and in what frequency they may be consulted.

3. Strengths and weaknesses

Although the foundation was registered in 2015 only, work in Poland has been carried out since 2010 by the founders of the foundation. So meanwhile we have built some good relationships in Poland with people we trust without a doubt. The people there also got to know us now, and are happy with us.

This creates the possibility that we can start projects based of our word and promise, without guarantees and evidence must be shown first.

The people in our organisation have some strong talents, so we are well able to conduct ongoing business with a satisfactory result. In addition, all board members originate from different churches to avoid one-sidedness of thinking and policy. We all have a large network through which we almost always know someone who can help us with things that we do not master ourselves that well.

In a later stage, of course we can also rely on the Phileo network as well.

Our weakness is the dependence on donations. So we will have to communicate what we do and want to do, and do that convincingly so people want to invest. Not for commercial return, but for a better world.

Here we will have to devote a lot of time and attention.

4. Strategic Goals

To realise our ambitions, we will travel regularly to Poland and discuss them with the relationships, to monitor progress and to start new projects.

These trips were always self-funded so far and it is our goal to continue to do so. If this really leads to problems, we will reimburse only necessary expenses. In this way we seek the highest possible percentage of the donations actually being spent on the goals it was given for.

The board members are therefore also unpaid. It’s all voluntary work.

Volunteers going to projects in Poland will pay for this themselves, so it does not come at the expense of the donations to the projects.

We will keep our donors well informed of all developments by a newsletter or email. Furthermore, the developments will be updated on our website.

5. Income and expenses

Our income and expenses consist roughly of a number of things:

  • The donations we received
  • The overhead costs of the foundation (bank charges, website registrations, accounting fees, etc.)
  • The payments to, and costs for projects in Poland.

The specified overview of income and expenditure will be published on our website yearly.
